You may have experienced the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that struck the Challis National Forest at approximately 6:00 PM yesterday evening. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake epicenter was about 72 miles northeast of Boise, ID, and 83 miles from Involta’s data centers.
Involta is pleased to report that all employees are safe, and both data center facilities were spared from harm.
While earthquakes are unusual in the Treasure Valley, it is part of our Superior Infrastructure protocol to prepare for disasters of this nature. Part of Involta’s site selection process involves a comprehensive risk assessment unique to each location. Given the location in Boise and the elevated risk for seismic activities in the region, the structural design of the Boise Data Center followed the Seismic Design Category D criteria for the protection of critical infrastructure.
It is likely the region will feel aftershocks for the next week. Involta will continue to monitor the situation at the data centers will keep our customers apprised of any activity or impact that warrants further attention.
In the meantime, Involta is committed to working with the local civic and business communities to respond with support as needed.
