The Company’s original investment of nearly $17 million included the first phase build-out of 5,000 square feet of data center floor infrastructure to support colocation and a 2.5MW utility substation onsite to serve the facility. The second phase, currently underway, will finish out an adjacent and contained data center floor, adding an additional 5,000 square feet. The infrastructure investment for operational equipment is approximately $4 million.
The expansion will serve Involta customers from the Akron, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and surrounding markets. Increased demand for colocation and managed information technology (IT) infrastructure services was a catalyst for Involta’s expansion in the market. The Company has specifically seen an increase in the demand for managed services with the recent launch of the Involta CompliantCloud℠ platform of services, designed for enterprises of all sizes. “The demand for the ability to share associated costs of housing and managing mission critical systems and the option of off-site data storage for disaster preparedness and compliancy planning is becoming increasingly important to organizations,” said Bruce Lehrman, Involta CEO. “Building and maintaining a separate, stand-alone data center is very costly,” he said. “By leveraging colocation, organizations can realize the advantages of an innovative data center facility while actually reducing capital expenditures. Use of this data center will allow organizations to focus on their core business rather than complex infrastructure and operational issues.”
“Involta’s announcement to move forward with the Phase II expansion of their facility is a testament to both the company’s success within a very competitive industry and the public-private partnership that we have built together in our community,” stated Rick Rebadow, Executive Vice President for the Greater Akron Chamber. “Involta’s reinvestment in their state-of-the-art colocation data center will not only create IT jobs at the local level, but also showcase our emerging technology cluster at the national level.”
Involta expects the expansion to be complete by late spring of 2014.
