Network Administrator

Youngstown, OH

The Network Administrator is responsible for Network Infrastructure, Security and VPN configuration for client networks.  Further responsibilities include, design and implementation of projects, monitoring LAN/WAN network devices and helping ensure an optimized and stable network infrastructure. 

Specifically the Administrator role is responsible for trouble ticket escalation, implementing solutions per a design document, and occasional design work.  Administrators own specific technology implementations and will escalate to more senior members of a team as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures and maintains organization’s LAN/WAN infrastructure (e.g. routers, switches and hubs)
  • Monitors routers and switches for bandwidth usage and throughput, reports information to team
  • Installs, configures and maintains firewalls, intrusion detection network sensors and VPN
  • Proactively researches, analyzes trends and recommends steps towards implementation of optimizing network infrastructure objects
  • Participates in reviewing existing instructions, guidelines, standards and policies seeking continuous improvement
  • Assists in developing instructions, guidelines, standards and /or policies
  • Develops and publishes monthly production statistics, as directed, to report on system performance
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish all work tasks and has a certain degree of creativity and latitude
  • Works within a team environment with guidance from a manager or project manager
  • Request appropriate information from the client to understand the urgency and resolve the problem
  • Resolve customer issues in a timely manner that generates the company’s brand loyalty

Education and Experience

  • BA or BS Degree – Computer Information Management or related discipline preferred
  • 5 + years network experience
  • Experience working in a complex network environment
  • Cisco certifications preferred
  • Experience working in a managed-services environment a plus

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of networking infrastructure, WAN, LAN, and wireless topologies, IP networking, and other network protocols
  • Extensive experience installing and supporting Cisco CUCM and other voice telephony
  • Experience installing and supporting Cisco network technologies
  • Working knowledge of Palo Alto, Juniper, CheckPoint, and Barracuda technologies preferred
  • Knowledge of security and related best practices preferred
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework a plus
  • Technical vendor interface experience a plus
  • Industry knowledge in emerging technology and trends

Working Conditions

  • Work in corporate environment which allows for team work and good communication skills
  • Non-traditional hours (nights and weekends) as required
  • On-Call rotation
