“The Pittsburgh area is experiencing tremendous growth in the technology sector,” said Senator Don White. “Adding Involta’s managed services and highly-secure data center to our portfolio provides our region with the essential foundation and infrastructure for businesses to succeed in today’s marketplace.”

In October 2016, Involta announced plans for the expansion into Western Pennsylvania with UPMC, a leading integrated healthcare provider and insurer, as anchor-tenant. UPMC selected Involta to build, own and operate the multi-tenant facility in the Northpointe Business Park. The data center will house mission-critical computer systems and provide related managed services for other Involta clients from the Pittsburgh technology sector.

“Working with Involta has allowed us to decrease capital and operating costs while leveraging highly reliable and secure facilities to store our critical data. This strategy gives us the flexibility we need to manage UPMC’s rapid growth across the state,” said UPMC Chief Information Officer, Ed McCallister.

As anchor tenant, UPMC will leverage Involta’s assets and suite of services to remain at the forefront of healthcare technology. Widely acclaimed for its healthcare information technology expertise, the capacity for storing and transmitting data that comes with Involta’s infrastructure will allow UPMC to eliminate the capital and operational costs associated with owning and operating a data center.

Involta’s Northpointe facility will consist of conditioned data center space, additional storage space, mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and office space for client and business continuity use. The data center will be concurrently maintainable with redundant capacity components and multiple independent distribution paths serving the computer equipment. Involta clients will have access to the entire suite of technical services the company offers. Key features of the current generation of Involta data center designs include reliability by extending dual path electrical capabilities across the entire site. Critical power for computing equipment goes beyond dual path as static transfer switches allow for multiple paths for UPS power.

“We are pleased to be opening our 15th data center and expanding our presence in Pennsylvania,” said Bruce Lehrman, Involta CEO. “With UPMC as anchor-tenant, we’ve strengthened our position in the healthcare market, where security, uptime confidentiality, integrity and availability are critical to success.”

With this new facility, Involta’s USA footprint assets now include 15 data centers, multiple customer support operations centers, multiple technology services platforms, more than 5,500 fiber miles and nearly 180 employees. Involta’s Pennsylvania footprint includes high-speed fiber connectivity to the company’s Ohio data centers in Akron, Columbus, Cleveland and two facilities in Youngstown.
