People Who Deliver: Spotlight Interview with Emma Sedrel

09/17/2021

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?

The ability to not take criticism personally. The content I write (i.e. social posts, blogs, newsletters, a rare press release, etc.) is seen by the public and must be appropriate in all respects. This being said, I believe the peer review process is the most important aspect when it comes to writing for the public. I also know and understand that my writing can always be improved upon and I’m grateful to the people who help me get it across the finish line – in Involta’s case – the people who help my writing Get There.

What is the one thing that has surprised you about working at Involta?

I’m surprised by how much Involta employees treat each other like family. They genuinely care about each other – asking more personal questions rather than, “What do you think of the weather?” It’s really great to be around that every day.

What is your favorite piece of technology? Why?

My AirPods for sure. I like to listen to music or audiobooks while I work. Both help me focus as I write social media content, research information for blogs, and work on multiple projects.

What is your favorite hobby?

I love to take my dogs, Badger and Flynn a.k.a. the boys, hiking with my cousin, Jacob, on the weekends. It’s our goal to visit every state park in Iowa, then move on to national parks. The top five national parks we want to take the boys to are Indiana Dunes National Park in Indiana, Badlands National Park in South Dakota, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, and Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.

What is one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?

I’m currently trying to run a mile each day in preparation for the Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer on Sunday, October 3rd. If you live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, it’s not too late to donate to the cause and join the race!

What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?

Depending on the day, I have two different options. One is to go to my parents’ house and snuggle with Badger and Flynn. The other is to relax at home and put on a favorite TV show (Godless, New Girl, or The Killing) or movie (Flipped, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, or The Devil All the Time) – all great picks if you’re looking for something new.
